    Regarding Acinetobacter species, national studies show its identification in Acinetobacter baumannii, Acinetobacter pitti and Acinetobacter bereziniae, all from clinical origin (Rossi et al., 2021; Deglmann et al., 2019; Brasiliense et al., 2019; Schuelter-Trevisol et al., 2016; Chagas et al., 2015; Pagano et al., 2015; Pillonetto et al., 2014). Environmental detection of the gene is restricted to a Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from recreational, a Stenotrophomonas maltophilia isolated from soil, and a water sample collected from a river (Campana et al., 2017; Furlan et al., 2018; Sanchez et al., 2018). Node 29, in which blaNDM-1 was located, exhibited 100% coverage and identity with part of pNDM-BJ02 from Acinetobacter lwoffii (GenBank accession number: JQ060896.1).

    Several NDM variants have been detected in Enterobacterales species isolated from aqueous ecosystems. NDM-1-producing Enterobacter spp., Klebsiella spp., Citrobacter spp., Shigella spp., E. coli, C. freundii, Citrobacter amalonaticus, Cronobacter malonaticus, Cronobacter sakazakii, S. boydii, K. pneumoniae, K. oxytoca, Klebsiella aerogenes, Kluyvera cryocrescens, K. ascorbata, Shigella sonnei, Providencia rettgeri, Enterobacter xiangfangensis, E. cloacae, Enterobacter tabaci, Enterobacter hormaechei, Enterobacter cancerogenus, Enterobacter ludwigii, S. marcescens and R. planticola have been isolated from seawater, drinking water, rivers, lakes, hospital sewage, wastewater, WWTPs, irrigation water and animal sewage [28,35,44,46,48,52,53,57,59,63,64,75,78–99].     MDR ARGs-producing bacteria hospital-associated have been reported in aquatic environments worldwide. In Brazil, detection of MDR K. pneumoniae in aquatic environments, such as urban lakes, beaches and wastewater treatment plants, has been increasingly detected, which is worrying (Dropa et al., 2016; Campana et al., 2017; Nascimento et al., 2017). Francisco et al. (2019) reported ESBL- and KPC-producing K. pneumoniae in urban rivers in the São Paulo State.
